The Junior League of Fort Worth (JLFW) has named Carrie R. Cappel its 89th President. Cappel will serve during the 2018-2019 year. Cappel joined JLFW in 2004 and previously served as President-Elect, Community Vice President, Project Research and Development Chair, and Done-in-a-Day Chair.

Cappel announced the organization’s theme for the year as WONDER of Women, meaning JLFW members will focus on empowering, mentoring and encouraging each other throughout the year.

“I could tell you that you’ll meet your best friends in the League, that you can work to raise a million dollars for our community each year, or that you’ll positively impact the lives of families and children that you may never meet,” Cappel said in her acceptance speech May 8, as reported by the Gilmer Mirror. “However, the thing that makes Junior League of Fort Worth magical is the women. Women working together.”

The Gilmer Mirror reports that as the JLFW President, Cappel will serve as an ex-officio member of the board of directors of The Cliburn and as a director of Mayfest, Inc., an annual festival where Cappel has volunteered as media chair for 12 years. In addition, Cappel currently sits on the Social Services Task Force for the Las Vegas Trail Revitalization Project and the Education Council for the Real Estate Council of Greater Fort Worth.

“At a young age, I learned the value of serving my community,” Cappel told the Gilmer Mirror. “My fondest childhood memories revolve around the East Texas Yamboree. I spent countless hours in the ‘old float barn’ watching my mother and her sorority sisters build a new float year after year for Beta Sigma Phi. In 1996, I had the great honor and privilege to represent Beta Sigma Phi as its Yamboree candidate. Although I have lived away from Gilmer for many years, it will always be home, and I proudly carry my East Texas accent with me.”
